Applauding oppo goalie
|
As an old school admirer of manners, sportsmanship and chivalry in its various forms, I like to observe which if any supporters applaud the opposition goalie as he takes his position at the start of the half. Seasoned observers will find the beginning of the second half particualrly noteworthy because it reflects on the first half agenda.
In my youth everyone did it but it seems now all but lost. Not sure why we did it, it was something just done. Respect for the gladiator perhaps.
Imagine my exitement then when the everton fans applauded Adrian for the second half (perhaps they anticipated the generous gap for the free kick). All clubs have their idiotic supporters but good to see Everton still have some proper fans.
Next week, rare bus spotting.

I always clapped the GK as he ran towards the old North Bank etc.
I liken it to when boxers touch gloves before round 1.
No issue with it and good to hear it is still (mostly) observed.

Pleased to hear BML regularly do so. I can tell you that away fans almost never applaud Adrian and hence my original post.
Fascinating to hear about Corinthians.

I've been sitting in the BML for the last 14 seasons and the oppo keeper gets clapped every game and I can rarely remember an occasion when the keeper hasn't clapped back or raised a hand in acknowledgment
